(Chinese Only)

With the generous support of S.K.H. churches, schools and social service units, supporting organisations and members of the public, the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council held the Charity Raffle 2019, which raised some HK$4 million in 7 weeks.   Some members of the advisory board, sponsors, representatives from S.K.H. churches and service users attended the 29th November lucky draw of Charity Raffle event, which was held at the H.K.S.K.H. St James’ Church David Li Community Hall. During the event, the Council thanked sponsors, retailer the elderly volunteers for their contributions and presented awards to recognise their dedicated efforts.   Funds Go to Support the Council’s Services The Revd Richard Tsang, Diocesan General Secretary, Eastern Kowloon, led the prayer ahead of the event. Dr Jane Lee, JP, Director of the Welfare Council, said the Charity Raffle event aimed to encourage public donations so as to create and execute more innovative services and programmes, and provide sustainable support and resources for various community services and groups. In the past 4 years, proceeds raised by the Charity Raffle event went to subsidise a number of services including the S.K.H. Stroke Rehabilitation Charity Fund, special educational needs services and S.K.H. Primary School Counselling Service. The S.K.H. Stroke Rehabilitation Charity Fund has already supported 77 stroke patients to undergo rehabilitative treatment. Out of these patients, 80% of them could reintegrate into the community and 90% of them reported improved mobility after rehabilitation services. Dr Lee was also grateful to over 260 S.K.H. churches, school and social service units as well as more than 30 retailers. Without their unfailing support, the Council would not be possible to raise nearly HK$4 million in a gloomy year for Hong Kong.   Thanks for the Support from All Sectors 43 winning numbers were drawn under the witness of the lucky draw included prize sponsors and the first-prize sponsor for the second consecutive year—Vang Iek Motors (Hong Kong).   In addition to selling raffle tickets, the Welfare Council also explored other ways to raise funds. This year, we worked with the Walnut Shop, a traditional snack brand in Hong Kong, which sponsored us egg biscuits for charity sale. Moreover, we thanked the elderly members and volunteers of the H.K.S.K.H. St Matthew's Neighbourhood Elderly Centre for making exclusive plush toys as charity sales souvenirs.   Last but not least, the Welfare Council presented S.K.H. churches and schools that raised the most funds, and achieved the greatest increase in funds from the previous year with tokens of gratitude. The Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council (Welfare Council) participated in the Caring Company Partnership Expo 2019 held annually at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Jointly organised by the Council and the Hong Kong and China Gas Company, “Chef Anchor” was also awarded the “Outstanding Partnership Project Award—Certificate of Merit” by the Caring Company Scheme, commending such innovative corporate-social collaboration and how it can provide support for cognitively impaired patients and their family members.   In the days ahead, the Welfare Council will continue to establish cross-collaborations with different corporations. In addition to community and voluntary services, the Council will also engage in professional exchanges with different sectors and leverage both strengths and advantages in hopes of creating future opportunities and transforming the lives of those who seek change.
