The “Love． Innovate for Happy Ageing” - PolyU Biomedical Engineering Innovation Competition
We co-organised the “Love． Innovate for Happy Ageing” contest alongside the Hong Kong Polytechnic University Department of Biomedical Engineering, which encouraged students to apply STEM knowledge to their gerontechnology designs. The contest invited trained testers from the Welfare Council’s elderly community centres to share feedback on the young people’s designs.

"SmartConnect" Programme
The Welfare Council received funding from the SIE Fund and initiated the "SmartConnect" Programme in October 2021, lasting 27 months. The program aims to empower the elderly in learning and utilizing information technology, boosting their confidence. It also encourages intergenerational collaboration in using digital technology to solve everyday issues, fostering understanding and community participation, and promoting digital inclusion across generations.
The program held a results-sharing session in December 2023. From the pre-and post-test data, it was evident that the program effectively enhanced the elderly's trust and confidence in digital technology, significantly improving their attitude and confidence in using information technology. Through intergenerational collaboration, the program effectively broke down preconceptions between both parties, greatly promoting intergenerational communication and integration.

United Court-Transitional Housing Project at Tung Tau, Yuen Long
With the support of government funding, the Welfare Council and Sun Hung Kai Properties have collaborated in the establishment of United Count Transitional Housing Project at Tung Tau, Yuen Long. The Project provides 1,800 units with the aim of improving the living conditions of grassroots families. Through the delivery of social services, we aim to inspire our residents to participate actively in the activities of United Count, thereby building a caring, supportive and inclusive community together.
The "United Court" is built by the Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) method. The development will be divided into 8 large residential areas, providing 4 different household types for 5,000 disadvantaged families. The project features include (1) located at Tung Tau, Yuen Long, which is close to Yuen Long MTR Station, Long Ping MTR Station and Yuen Long Town, with convenient transportation and comprehensive community facilities; (2) various facilities for the benefit of the residents, including an integrated service centre, a community garden, a convenience store, a self-service laundary; (3) providing residents with after-school care, parenting education, health guidance, employment training and community participation opportunities by a team of social workers, to enhance the residents' abilities and foster their sense of belonging; and (4) introducing the first "8 Well-Being Indices" in transitional housing to provide support to residents according to their body, mind and spiritual well-being needs, to encourage them to develop good living habits and build up their self-confidence.

Chef Anchor
“Chef Anchor”—a collaborative project between the Hong Kong and China Gas Company and the Welfare Council, is a programme that helps delay the progression of mild cognitive impairment by encouraging participants to memorise cooking procedures. Since 2018, the programme has been awarded a number of prizes across the region, including 1) the “Best Dementia Care Programme” at the Ageing Asia Innovation Forum’s Asia Pacific Eldercare Innovation Awards, which was held in May 2018 in Singapore; 2) the “Age-friendly Innovation Award” of the “Jockey Club Age-friendly City Partnership Scheme” in May 2019; 3) “The 4th Hong Kong Public Relation Awards— Corporate Social Responsibility Gold Award” by the Hong Kong Public Relations Professionals' Association in May 2019; and 4) the “Outstanding Partnership Project Award—Certificate of Merit” by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service in June 2019.

"Career Companion" scheme
With funding from the Kerry Group Kuok Foundation, our team launched the "Career Companion" scheme to offer employment training to ethnic minority and local women. Through the scheme, we hope to empower women to discover their potential; many of our participants seized every opportunity they could learn, getting involved in different flea market events to accumulate sales experiences.

Wings of Love｜Promoting Public Education on Support for Parents of Lost Babies
Every year, about 9,000 pregnant women in Hong Kong lose their babies for various reasons. As these little lives are never born, the grief of their parents can easily be overlooked or misunderstood. In December 2020, with the support of the Zonta Club of Hong Kong East and the Chinachem Group, the Holy Carpenter Church District Elderly Community Centre launched a new one-year service project –"Wings of Love". The project provided funeral support and counselling services to parents who have lost their babies, organised small support groups for bereaved parents and promoted public education on the subject. The aim was to increase the community's empathy towards parents who have lost their babies and provide counselling and crisis support to those in need to help them overcome their grief.
