Strategic Initiatives Social Enterprises

We • Gift is a social enterprise under the Providence Garden for Rehab, dedicated to providing high-quality products and services to the public and offering training and employment opportunities for rehabilitation individuals. All products and services are produced and provided by rehabilitation individuals, allowing them to showcase their abilities, enhance their work skills and self-confidence, and promote social inclusion. The products and services include handicrafts, baked goods, packaging and processing services, large block decoration services, and venue rental services.

In August 2022, the local social enterprise We • Gift opened a gift shop at Tsuen Wan West MTR Station, primarily selling handmade soaps and cookies made by rehabilitation individuals, with rehabilitation individuals serving as store assistants. The shop also features a special "a little BOX of big JOY" DIY gift packaging area, allowing customers to mix and match different products and packaging to create unique gifts.

The scope of service of Kam Wah Design & Engineering (‘Kam Wah’) is primarily elderly-friendly home design and modification, as well as design services for social service units and schools. The company incorporates the opinions and needs of users when formulating the scope of works and design solutions, and stays in close contact with users throughout the works. Users are encouraged to participate in the entire design process. In addition, Kam Wah provides work-related training and internship/apprenticeship opportunities for members of the Providence Garden for Rehab. Kam Wah also entered the Social Enterprise Directory in 2018 and remains dedicated to the development of local social enterprises and the creation of social value.

People-oriented

Kam Wah is a proponent of people-oriented design and aims to provide high-quality, reasonably-priced design  services to social services, schools, and the public. In addition, social workers, occupational therapists, and interior designers work as a multidisciplinary team to accommodate the physical conditions and daily needs of the users. We especially provide home-improvement solutions and a one-stop shop for renovation works, so as to support ageing in place.

Participatory design

Kam Wah values participatory design, where service users are the backbone of each project. Their participation supports the development of the project, from appreciation and understanding (Appreciate), to thinking and exploration (Explore), to conceptualisation and questioning (Express), to learning and practice (Learn and Take Action), to the culmination of shared results (Share). By participating in each process and stage, service users collaborate with the team such that the result is the best possible use of space.

Care by design

There can be warmth in design. This is the underlying belief and driving force of the team, and such is the team’s commitment to service users and customers. In addition to designing with care, the team also contributes its expertise and skills to society. Through the project ‘Act of Love’, the team improves living conditions for people in need.

Green Infinity Recycling Shop is a social enterprise that was established in July 2009. The shop aims to promote environmental protection and resource reuse by selling or regifting new or used recyclables, which are collected from enterprises and the community, at an affordable price after undergoing cleansing and basic repairs.

In addition to its retail operations, the shop organizes various activities to further its mission. For example, they offer $1 second-hand items to encourage affordability and accessibility. They also set up a mobile bookstore where children can borrow books for free, promoting literacy and a love for reading. Furthermore, the shop has opened a consignment store where residents can sell their homemade items, fostering a sense of creativity and entrepreneurship within the community.

As part of their commitment to community engagement, the Green Infinity Recycling Shop provides internship opportunities, volunteer services, and interest classes. These initiatives aim to foster mutual support and create a sense of community among its stakeholders.
