I am grateful to the Heavenly Father for giving me the opportunity to serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council. For me, this is more of a blessing than a challenge. It allows me to work alongside a passionate and mission-driven team in serving those in need, building a society of love and care in the spirit of Christ, and striving for harmony and peace between all people and the divine.
After I joined the Welfare Council in July 2022, I visited various service units and was deeply moved by the genuine care and love provided by our staff to service users. I also felt our colleagues toiling away and giving selflessly because of their belief in our service mission, especially in times of manpower shortage.
Over the past year, I am truly thankful for the trust and support from the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Province, the Welfare Council's Board of Directors and the Executive Committee, which has allowed me to integrate seamlessly into the Sheng Kung Hui family. In the future, I will strive and bring to bear my experiences, networks, and skills to enrich the work of the Welfare Council so as to manifest Christ's spirit of love and care.
Enduring the past three years of the pandemic was difficult for everyone. Since the outbreak, the Welfare Council faced unprecedented challenges in our service operations. Fortunately, from the Executive Committee to frontline staff, the Welfare Council was united as one, working hand in hand to fight the epidemic. Through this ordeal, the Welfare Council fully demonstrated our “Servanthood Leadership” philosophy and the unwavering dedication of our staff towards service users. Post-pandemic, the Welfare Council has been paying close attention to the physical and mental wellness of our residents.
It is gratifying to witness the smooth progress of our most recent innovative services, such as the “United Court” transitional housing project and the Wong Tai Sin District Health Centre. In addition, the work on the Kowloon City Themed Walking Trail project, funded by the Urban Renewal Fund, was completed. This project blends heritage, conservation and technology with participatory design thinking as well as multicultural activities to connect the community and culture inheritance.
Recognition from the society is our strongest motivation. Last year, we received over 10 awards spanning various areas such as the elderly, youth, occupational safety, etc.
Talent cultivation is a critical element in the Welfare Council's development. I firmly believe that each colleague has the potential to excel and most importantly in the motto “To lead is to follow; To lead is to serve”. I will uphold the spirit of “Servanthood Leadership”, forge ahead alongside colleagues and continue to humbly serve as a “Channel of Peace” on earth for the Heavenly Father.
